About the Accounting Program
Getting a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting provides students with a few different opportunities. Lake Erie College's small class size allows all students to get individualized, one-on-one attention from professors and advisors. This allows the student to receive personalized guidance, tutoring, and help figuring out what their path after college looks like.
The accounting program at LEC offers students various opportunities to get hands-on experience and shine throughout their educational journey. These experiences include Lake Erie College's Tax Clinic Course and Personalized Networking Opportunities.
Taxes & Culture Clinic
In the spring semester, students enrolled in one of the Taxes & Culture Clinic courses will learn how to prepare taxes by hand. Learning how to prepare taxes this way gives students a more thorough understanding of how the income tax system works.
In the second half of the course, the accounting program allows the Taxes and Culture Clinic students go out into the community and help lower-income taxpayers of the Painesville and Lake County community complete their income tax responsibilities by completing their federal, state and local income tax returns. This gives accounting students the hands-on experience of helping clients and filing taxes for someone else.
Personalized Networking Opportunities
With the small class size, Lake Erie College accounting professors and faculty advisors are able to give individualized attention to students. Accounting Professor Julie Ziemak works with each students to find their strengths and pair them with internship and job opportunities that match what they want in their career.
In turn, many LEC Accounting Alumni reach out to Professor Ziemak after they graduate to fill open positions. Students are recommended for these open positions based on their background and interests. This hands-on matching students with opportunities fosters a great relationship between Lake Erie College, contributing heavily to every accounting student graduating with an internship.
